Rosie: A young mama with a fierce will to live—and love.
Rosie’s Story
Rosie came to Mustang Valley from a heartbreaking neglect case in Texas. She was one of dozens of mustangs “bailed” from kill pens, only to be dumped on overcrowded land with little food, no vet care, and no shelter. Pregnant at just three years old—despite being severely underweight—Rosie had survived conditions no horse should endure. Mares were turned out with stallions. Many didn’t make it. But Rosie held on.
When she arrived at the sanctuary, she was timid, malnourished, and carrying new life.
Her Healing Journey
In February, Rosie gave birth to a beautiful colt named Simba right here at Mustang Valley. Since then, she has shown us what maternal love and inner strength truly look like.
Rosie suffers from a condition called roach back, likely caused by the malnutrition and physical stress she endured during her pregnancy. Our team has been providing her with gentle, consistent physical therapy to help strengthen her spine and support long-term recovery.
Though she’s still in training, Rosie is blossoming. She is fiercely bonded with Simba—watching the two of them together is like witnessing a miracle.
She’s playful, curious, and slowly learning to trust humans again. And while her path hasn’t been easy, we believe Rosie has a bright future and a forever home ahead of her.

A Note from Rosie
“When I came here, I was tired, thin, and scared. But then I met gentle hands, warm hay, and soft voices. I found a place where my baby could be born safe. I still have a lot of healing to do—but thanks to you, I know I’ll get there.”
