Shayna, a 10-year-old Nevada Mustang, possesses a distinctive feature known as a “Roman nose.” This term refers to a particular facial structure characterized by a prominent, slightly convex profile resembling the noses seen in ancient Roman sculptures. With a light chestnut coat, Shayna stands out as an elegantly beautiful horse. She arrived at Mustang Valley Sanctuary in late 2022 from the direct ship lot.
Personality and interaction
Shayna’s endearing personality shines through her interactions with humans. Despite not being part of the main herd, she exhibits sheer joy whenever someone approaches her paddock. Her excitement is evident as she runs toward Mustang Mary or other visitors for affection. She longs for human companionship. This unique trait continues to develop, as she learns to separate from her companion Shelby and discovers that life holds new possibilities.
Training and medical challenges
While Shayna shows great potential, there are currently some obstacles to overcome. Muscle tremors and other health issues have prevented her from being ridden thus far. Further testing and investigation are underway to identify the root cause of these challenges, and the sanctuary team is dedicated to finding a resolution. Despite these setbacks, Shayna demonstrates impressive traits such as leading, having her hooves picked, and thoroughly enjoying grooming sessions.
A heartwarming disposition
Mustang Mary says Shayna’s lovable nature is like nothing else so much as a golden retriever. She exudes sensitivity, easily becoming offended if not acknowledged or greeted when passing by. This gentle mare appreciates being seen and valued, and her affectionate spirit is evident in every interaction. Shayna’s heartwarming responses and her preference for human companionship make her a truly special horse.
Hopes and future plans
The sanctuary’s ultimate goal for Shayna is to address her medical issues and find her an ideal forever home. She deserves a partner who appreciates the true essence of a horse-human bond, someone who relishes spending time grooming, practicing liberty work, riding, and exploring trails together. Ideally, a home where horses are kept on the premises would allow Shayna to thrive in an environment where she can receive the attention and companionship she craves.
An extraordinarily sensitive companion
Above all, it’s important to recognize that Shayna possesses remarkable sensitivity, kindness, and love. Her personality and endearing qualities make her a true gem among the precious horses at Mustang Valley Sanctuary. With the right understanding, care, and support, Shayna has the potential to become an extraordinary companion, bringing joy and connection to the life of her future human partner.
